Tenryokinimo Imo Shochu 720ml
Kyushu is famous for Honkaku (single distilled) sweet potato shochu know by the moniker "Imo". Inoue Shuzo, famous for their multi award winning Barley Shochu have added an Imo to their line up made from southern golden sweet potato with a rice koji base.
For a maker famous for Mugi, their first Imo is unmistakably sweet potato on the nose alone, with a dose of white flowers. Tasting this shochu in its purest form without the addition of water or ice, it starts lean with floral notes followed by steamed sweet potato and a persistent spicy finish. They have used atmospheric distillation and black koji to maintain the original flavour of the sweet potato.
The brewer enjoys this shochu Oyuwari (with hot water) which brings out the koji character and enhances the sweetness. The regular Australian drinker may enjoy this straight up yet slightly chilled. You be the judge ...
